I had an Elkhorn EX3 9 foot rod. The original price was great and the rod handled all right. The rod was basically used as a backup. Unfortunately, the rod tip section kept breaking over and over again (3 times total). At $50.00 or so to replace a rod tip including postage they cease to be much of a deal. Brian the owner accused me of abusing the rod when I questioned him about the product after a second broken tip section. After I told him that I use it only as a backup and do not throw weighted flies or use split shot, he became more defensive. Blaming the customer first is not great customer service. The last tip section broke in 2009 after just a few hours of use. I sent it back and told him to keep it. I am out about $ 320.00 and have no backup flyrod. At some point in time you have to quit throwing good money after bad. My son had the same problem with his EX3 suffering a broken rod tip with limited use. I had touted him on the rod and now regret doing so. I must say the rod tubes are nice. Great product if you don't mind repairing/replacing it over and over again. I would save my money and get something that lasts. My Sage RP was used as my primary rod for 15 years. The tip section broke once when I loaned it out and Sage provided me with a new blank at a fair price. My Z AXIS Sage is now my primary rod and I have had no problems with it have used it weekly without incident.

Awesome, Cale. I love great customer service stories.

I lived in Loveland for about 2 years. It's a relaxing area of the world to live.
